In London, several people were detained during the protest against the banned group Palestine Action, which was designated a "terrorist organization" by the British government last month.
Protesters gathered at Parliament Square in Westminster on Saturday, holding placards that read: "I am against genocide. I support Palestine Action." Police began mass detentions just minutes after the action started.
According to police information, by 15:40, 200 individuals had been detained, with the possibility of further arrests. Many activists were released after their detention on the condition that they would not hold further protests in support of Palestine Action.
Organizers of the action claim that between 600 and 700 people participated in the protest, but police estimate the attendance to be between 500-600, including observers and journalists.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman commented on the banning of Palestine Action after activists vandalized the RAF Brize Norton military base and damaged two aircraft. The group Huda Amari has the opportunity to challenge this decision in court, with a hearing scheduled for November.
In connection with the banned activists, holding placards or wearing t-shirts in support of the group is considered a criminal offense under the Terrorism Act.
Additionally, thousands of people participated in the march in solidarity with Palestine, to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Participants in the march demanded an end to violence and access to food and water for the besieged.
