On Saturday, Al-Hilal, the most popular team in Saudi Arabia, announced the signing of Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez. The deal is valued at 46.3 million pounds sterling ($62 million), and Nunez signed a three-year contract.
The 26-year-old footballer, who previously played for Liverpool, remains with the club after a period where he was not able to establish himself as a main striker. During his time at Liverpool, Nunez scored 40 goals in 143 matches, but last season he only managed to score seven goals in 47 appearances.
In the summer transfer window, Liverpool signed attackers, bringing in Hugues Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, which placed Nunez's position in the club under scrutiny. Initially, it was reported that in Saudi Arabia, there were other stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Sadio Mane.
Al-Hilal has many well-known players in its squad, such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Sergey Milinković-Savić, and Joao Cancelo, and their coach is Simone Inzaghi, who previously reached the finals of the Champions League.
