Germany has halted the export of weapons to Israel amid criticism
- The Chancellor of Germany has halted the export of weapons to Israel.
- The decision has provoked criticism from the CDU and CSU political parties.
- A video conference is planned for discussing foreign policy.
On September 9, 2025, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz announced the halt of arms exports to Israel. This decision has provoked concern among politicians from Merz's party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), and its Bavarian ally, the Christian Social Union (CSU). In particular, the CSU's chairman, Horst Seehofer, criticized this decision, calling it a mistake in foreign policy.
Merz explained that his decision aims to bring Israel under control over the entire territory of the Gaza Strip. In response to this, CSU parliament member Stephan Pilsinger also expressed discontent, stating that the ban on the supply of weapons effectively limits Germany's possibilities in this matter. In connection with this, on September 10, representatives of the CDU and CSU plan to hold a video conference to discuss current international events, which underscores the need for dialogue within the center-right bloc.
