North Korea Demolishes Propaganda Villages on the Border
- North Korea has begun demolishing propaganda villages on the border.
- This step follows similar actions from the side of South Korea.
- President Lee Jae-myung is seeking to improve relations with North Korea.
North Korea has started the demolition of some of its propaganda villages on the border with South Korea. The military of South Korea reported this on September 9, 2025, stating that this occurred after South Korea also began demolishing its propaganda villages, which were used for the transmission of anti-North Korean propaganda.
This step is part of the new liberal administration of President Lee Jae-myung, which aims to reduce tensions between the two countries. After his election in June 2025, South Korea halted the transmission of critical messages about North Korea.
North Korea has not confirmed the information about the demolition of its propaganda villages. The military of South Korea noted that more verification is needed to determine whether the demolition is taking place in all border areas. Last month, residents of bordering regions of North Korea reported on broadcasts from North Korea that transmitted sounds that triggered discomfort.
The demolition of propaganda villages from both sides is taking place against the backdrop of heightened tensions through the nuclear program of North Korea and military exercises of South Korea with the USA, which will begin on August 18. North Korea usually considers these exercises a rehearsal for invasion.
