INDIANAPOLIS — The competition among quarterbacks in Indianapolis Colts has been reignited following Anthony Richardson's return to practice on Saturday. This occurred two days after he was seen limping off the field during the previous match against the Baltimore Ravens, which ended in a loss of 24-16 for the Colts.
Richardson sustained an injury on the second attacking series, when unblocked linebacker David Ojabo tackled him to the ground. After this, the rookie felt that his ankle looked abnormal, and he immediately went to the sideline, where medical staff quickly attended to his ankle on the field.
Although he was trying to throw the ball on the sideline, he had to return to the locker room, where he was evaluated for a sprain. This incident marked yet another highlight in Richardson's career, which has already been plagued by injuries. His statistics show that he has 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 15 starting matches since the Colts selected him in the 2023 draft under the fourth pick.
In the previous season, Richardson ended his campaign with the lowest completion percentage among quarterbacks, completing only 47.7% of passes, while he threw 13 touchdowns and 11 touchdowns. These problems led Indianapolis to sign a contract with free agent Daniel Jones for one year for 14 million dollars, which created competition among them.
Jones, who was previously selected sixth overall in the 2019 draft, showed his readiness by completing 10 of 21 passes for 144 yards during the match against the Ravens. After the game, trainer Shane Steichen stated that he planned to give Richardson more time in the next match against the Green Bay Packers, but now this plan may change if Richardson is unable to play.
