NASCAR Winner Sustained Injury While Celebrating at Watkins Glen

  • Connor Zilisch celebrated his victory when he fell and broke his collarbone.
  • The driver was hospitalized, but later he was discharged.
  • He completed the race in 60 of 82 laps before the incident.

In Watkins Glen, New York, during the victory celebration for the winner of the Xfinity series, 19-year-old NASCAR driver Connor Zilisch broke his collarbone. The incident occurred after Zilisch lifted the hood of his Chevrolet number 88, celebrating his sixth victory of the season.

During the celebration, he likely did not maintain his balance, and his left arm got stuck in the window, which led to the fall on the asphalt. The driver was taken to a medical center on the track, and later transported to a hospital for further examination. A few hours later, Zilisch confirmed that he had a broken collarbone, but the CT scan did not reveal any head injury.

He thanked everyone for their support in a post on X, noting that he already feels better and is grateful to the medical team for their quick response. It is currently unknown if he will be able to participate in the upcoming events of the Cup on that same track.

This incident became the culmination of an active day for Zilisch, who, despite the injury, showed remarkable performance, completing the race in 60 of 82 laps. He had previously missed a race due to injury from a spin-out incident at Talladega.
