ORCHARD PARK, New York – James Cook, the running back for the Buffalo Bills, did not appear on the field during the preseason game against the New York Giants, despite being on the field in full gear. The reason for his absence lies in the fact that the player is demanding a new contract.
Cook did not participate in training sessions since September 1, and his refusal to play in the game on September 9 increased his intentions to secure better contract terms. Trainer Sean McDermott confirmed that the team wanted Cook to play, but he decided not to take the field.
According to McDermott, "we wanted him to play, but at this moment, considering his situation, he wasn't ready for this." Cook is an important player for the team, especially since last season he became the joint leader in the NFL for the most rushing touchdowns.
Cook, who was selected in the second round of the 2022 draft, has accumulated 2,638 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 97 receptions for 883 yards over three seasons. He earned $4.257 million on his contract, but believes that his performances deserve more.
Currently, Cook is in the final year of his contract, which totals $5.271 million. His situation has sparked much discussion among analysts and observers, especially as he is trying to achieve the status of one of the best running backs in the league.
Meanwhile, the pressure on Cook is increasing, as he is trying to convince the team of his value, while the training staff and general manager Brandon Beane are trying to maintain a positive atmosphere in the collective.
