Salah criticizes UEFA for limited statement of solidarity regarding al-Obeid
- Salah called on UEFA to clarify the circumstances of al-Obeid's death.
- Al-Obeid was killed during an attack on civilians in Gaza.
- PFA reported 325 fatalities from the football community during the conflict.
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah expressed criticism of UEFA for its limited statement of solidarity following the death of Palestinian footballer Suleiman al-Obeid. In his post on social media, X UEFA referred to al-Obeid as "a talent who brought hope to countless children even in the darkest times."
According to information from the Palestinian Football Association (PFA), 41-year-old al-Obeid was killed by Israeli forces during an attack on civilians, who were waiting for humanitarian aid in southern Gaza. Salah noted that the statement from UEFA did not specify the circumstances of his death, asking: "Can you tell how he was killed, where, and why?".
Salah, one of the most famous Arab footballers in the world, has repeatedly called for humanitarian access in Gaza. Following the start of the war in October 2023, he called on world leaders to unite to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and to prevent further suffering among innocent civilians.
Suleiman al-Obeid, known as "the Palestinian Pele," played 24 matches for the Palestinian national team and scored two goals, including a memorable strike against Jordan in 2010. PFA reported that since the start of the conflict on July 7, 2023, 325 people from the Palestinian football community have been killed.
