LOS ANGELES (AP) — On Saturday evening, September 10, 2025, Shohei Ohtani achieved his 40th home run of the season in the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the Toronto Blue Jays. Ohtani hit a center-field shot that traveled 417 feet in the fifth inning, allowing the Dodgers to take a three-run lead.
This achievement marked the Japanese player's fourth in his career, following his winning of the MVP award three times in the previous year, when he reached this milestone. In the previous year, Ohtani set a personal record, hitting 54 home runs, and became the MVP of the National League in his first season with the Dodgers.
Los Angeles won decisively with a score of 9-1. In the fourth inning, Max Muncy opened the scoring, hitting a two-run home run, and in the sixth inning, the team added six more runs. Blake Snell, who returned to the mound after an injury, struck out 10 batters, allowing only three hits.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated that Ohtani continues to work on his hitting technique, which contributes to his success. He was not surprised that Ohtani reached 55 home runs by the end of the season.
