Elves have departed from Germany to Santa Claus village in Finland

  • Three elves have departed from Germany to Finland by bicycle.
  • The journey is expected to last nearly two weeks across several countries.
  • Saint Nicholas has sent the elves letters and his wish list.

From the town of Saint Nicholas in Germany, a group of three postal workers has started their bicycle journey to Santa Claus village in Rovaniemi, Finland. The journey began on Saturday, September 10, 2025, covering nearly 3000 kilometers and expected to take approximately two weeks.

The elves are traveling to deliver letters and Christmas wishes addressed to Santa Claus, from Germany, including from the federal land of Saar. Saint Nicholas, dressed in a long purple cloak, was present at the ceremony of sending off, where he handed over letters to three elves.

This event is part of a tradition that has its origins in 1967. Annually, more than 30,000 letters from children around the world are processed, which arrive at the postal department of Saint Nicholas, which has its own postal index.

This year, Saint Nicholas also sent his personal wish list to the elves, hoping to receive a response from Santa Claus in Finland.
