During her appearance at the festival in Locarno, Switzerland, the actress revealed that she received a call from Trump on the day her separation from Kenneth Branagh became official. "I thought it was a joke when I heard: 'Hello, this is Donald Trump.' I asked how I could help, and I also thought he needed directions. Later he said he wanted to invite me to dinner," she recalled.

Thompson joked that if she had accepted his invitation, it could have "changed the course of American history." The actress noted that Trump, who recently separated from his wife, was apparently looking for new acquaintances. She also added that this could be an example of a precedent: "He found my number in my trailer!".
