Bournemouth signs defender Baafode Diakite from Lille

  • Bournemouth signs Baafode Diakite for 35 million euros
  • Diakite undergoes medical examination in London
  • The club is searching for new defenders due to the possible departure of Zabirny

The Bournemouth club has reached an agreement to sign defender Baafode Diakite from the French club Lille. The 24-year-old footballer undergoes a medical examination in London before signing a five-year contract.

The total transfer fee amounts to 35 million euros (30.3 million pounds) plus 5 million euros in add-ons, making this deal the second largest in the club's history. Diakite has already played 48 matches for Lille last season, scoring four goals, and has experience playing for the youth teams of France.

This transfer comes amid interest in Ukrainian defender Illia Zabirnyi from Paris Saint-Germain, which may pave the way for his move to the French capital. Diakite becomes the third signing for Bournemouth this summer after the left-back Adrien Truffert and goalkeeper Dzhordzhy Petrovich.

The club has also announced serious changes in the squad, having sold key players, including Milosh Kerkez, who moved to Liverpool for 40 million pounds, and Dina Huysena to Real for 50 million pounds.
