Record Rainfall in the Eastern U.S. in Summer 2025

  • Summer 2025 was the wettest on record in the Eastern U.S.
  • The record number of rainy days with high humidity occurred in 27 states.
  • Climate changes will lead to increased rainfall and humidity.

Summer 2025 was the wettest in the entire history of observations for the eastern part of the U.S. More than 70 million Americans experienced high humidity, surpassing the average figures of the last decade, as reported by Associated Press research.

In June and July, 27 states and Washington recorded a record number of days with humidity exceeding 65 degrees Fahrenheit. For example, in Philadelphia, there were 29 days with extremely high humidity, while in Washington and Baltimore — 27 and 24 days respectively, which is considered uncomfortable for most people.

The average humidity in June and July across the entire eastern territory was above 66 degrees, which is the highest figure since measurements began in 1950. This increase in humidity is linked to global climate changes, which are caused by the burning of fossil fuels.

Climatologists note that in recent years, there has been not only an increase in average humidity levels but also a significant rise in the number of days with above-average humidity. High humidity contributes to elevated nighttime temperatures in many cities, such as Raleigh, Charlotte, and Nashville.

According to meteorological data, increased humidity affects people's health, especially those who do not have access to air conditioning. There is a trend that humidity is moving northward, in areas where people are less accustomed to such conditions.
