At Wembley Stadium, a tribute was held in memory of Diogo Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva before the Community Shield match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace on September 6. Both footballers died in a car accident in Spain on July 3, 2025.
Before the start of the match, spectators honored the memory of the deceased with a moment of silence. However, this moment was interrupted by a small group of Crystal Palace fans who began to chant. Other supporters in the stands silenced them to restore order, while Liverpool fans reacted with whistles.
Liverpool displayed a banner featuring Jota's image and his number 20, which the club decided to retire from circulation. The team's manager, Arne Slot, expressed pride in his players, who, despite the tragedy, demonstrated unity and support for one another.
Before the match, Slot emphasized that this season will be important for the club, especially as they aim to cope with the loss of such an important player like Jota. He also noted that the club will continue to support Jota's family during this difficult time.
Liverpool fans honored Jota's memory by singing the song "You'll Never Walk Alone," which became an important moment for all present.
