On August 10, 2025, a phone conversation took place between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. The leaders discussed bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, as well as diplomatic communication with the USA and European partners.

Zelensky welcomed Aliyev's achievements regarding peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, facilitated by the efforts of US President Donald Trump. The President of Ukraine emphasized the importance of joint efforts to counter Russia's aggression.

The leaders also discussed Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, including on the oil facilities that belong to the Azerbaijani company SOCAR. Zelensky noted that this is an attempt by Russia to block energy routes that ensure Ukraine's energy independence and that of other European countries.

Aliyev confirmed the condemnation of Russia's attacks on SOCAR's oil facilities and other objects that belong to Azerbaijan, including a gas compressor station that transports gas to Ukraine.
