Vance Reveals US Plan for Ending the War in Ukraine

US Vice President J.D. Vance stated that a key step towards resolving the situation in Ukraine is reaching an agreement based on a ceasefire line of contact between Ukraine and Russia. However, he noted that such an agreement would likely not satisfy either side.

Vance confirmed the intention to find a resolution to the conflict that would correspond to the current state of the line of contact in Ukraine. "We will strive to find some compromise, where Ukrainians and Russians can live, where they can live in a peaceful world, where killings cease," he said.

Vance acknowledged that the conditions for peace would likely not satisfy either Ukrainians or Russians as "extraordinarily happy". Both sides would likely remain unsatisfied with such an agreement.

At the same time, the US Ambassador to NATO, Julianne Smith, stated that there would be no territorial concessions in the war in Ukraine without a ceasefire. Her comments were in response to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

On August 8, US President Donald Trump announced a planned meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, not ruling out the possibility of territorial concessions during the negotiations. In response, Zelenskyy published a video in which he stated that Ukraine would not cede its territory to Russia.

According to media reports, during the meeting with US Special Envoy Steve Vitkoff, Putin allegedly hinted at the possibility of a ceasefire if Ukraine withdraws its troops from Donetsk, but later clarified that Vitkoff may have misunderstood Putin.
