August 10, 2025, Memphis, Tennessee — Justin Rose defeated J.J. Spaun in an exciting playoff at the St Jude Championship, marking his first victory on the PGA Tour in over two years.
Rose, a 45-year-old golfer from England, finished the tournament with a score of -16, competing against Spaun, who also finished with the same score. Rose made a birdie on the third additional playoff hole, after both players missed par on the first.
Rose started with three birdies, but struggled to keep pace with the competitors, finishing the final round with a score of 67. He made four birdies on the back nine, allowing him to tie for the lead.
Spaun, who also demonstrated impressive play, made a crucial 20-foot putt on the 17th hole, which allowed him to level the score. However, in the playoff, he was unable to continue this streak.
Tommy Fleetwood, who had chances to win, finished with a score of 69, failing to capitalize on his opportunities on the final holes, including a bogey on the 16th hole, losing the lead.
This victory returns Rose to the top 10 of the world rankings and secures him a spot on the Ryder Cup team.
Fleetwood, who is still seeking his first victory on the PGA Tour, noted that he felt positive about his performances, despite the disappointment.
