On August 11, 2025, in the northwestern province of Turkey, Balıkesir, an earthquake measuring 6.1 occurred. According to reports, one person was killed, while 29 were injured.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the town of Sindirgi at a depth of 11 km. Tremors were felt in Izmir, Istanbul, and other populated areas of the region. Most of the affected were residents of older and abandoned buildings.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Turkey, Ali Yerlikaya, confirmed that one elderly woman was killed after being trapped under the rubble. Four other people were rescued. A total of 16 buildings were destroyed, including two minarets of mosques.

According to the agency's information on emergency situations, following the main earthquake, there were several aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 4.6. Residents are advised not to enter damaged buildings.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged for rapid assistance to those affected.

Turkey is located in a seismically active zone, making earthquakes here a frequent occurrence. In 2023, an earthquake measuring 7.8 claimed the lives of over 53 thousand people.
