Alicia Kemp, a 25-year-old tourist from the United Kingdom, was found guilty of her negligence in the death of a man in Australia. The incident occurred on May 31 in Perth when Kemp, driving an electric scooter, collided with 51-year-old Thanya Phan, who was crossing at the intersection.

Phan sustained serious head injuries and died in the hospital two days after the accident. Kemp, who was under the influence of alcohol, was driving at a speed of 20-25 km/h. Her blood alcohol level exceeded the legally established limit more than three times, registering 0.158.

In court in the Western Australian Supreme Court, Kemp admitted her guilt in the negligence leading to death. She faces up to 20 years in prison. Kemp will remain under police guard until the upcoming court hearing, which will take place on July 31.

Following the tragedy in Perth, the use of electric scooters was suspended, and the state government began an investigation into the safety of such transportation means. This is already the fifth fatal accident related to electric scooters in this state in 2025.
