Filipinos Ready to Participate in the War for Taiwan

President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stated that his country will inevitably be drawn into any war for Taiwan due to its proximity to the self-governing island and the significant number of Filipino workers residing there. These comments were made amid strong protests from China.

At a press conference, Marcos also emphasized that the Philippines will strengthen its military presence and other forces that protect the territorial interests of the country in the South China Sea, will not back down, and will stand firm in its waters. This follows after China's coastal defense conducted unsafe maneuvers to block and exert powerful water pressure to remove the Philippine vessels from the Scarborough Shoal.

Incidents between China and the Philippines have significantly increased since the administration of Marcos, which came to power in mid-2022, becoming one of the most active critics of China's aggressive actions in the South China Sea. The Philippine government has deepened its alliances with the USA and expanded security ties with other Western and Asian countries, such as Japan, Australia, India, and some EU countries.

China protested last week, accusing Marcos of interfering in its internal affairs and violating the "One China" policy. The Philippine president expressed concern over China's protest, noting that he does not understand why his words provoked such a reaction.

Marcos also reiterated that his country will continue to protect its territory. "There is no magic pill that will solve all our problems. We will continue to be present, protect our territory, and assert our sovereign rights," he said.
