Connor Cody stated that the Wrexham team "will become better" after the 2-1 defeat against Southampton on the first day of the Championship 2025-26. After Joash Windass missed a penalty in the first half, Wrexham looked good, but late goals from Ryan Manning and Jack Stephens led to Southampton's victory, under the management of Will Still who debuted in the position.

Cody, the new player of the team, believes that Wrexham can gain a lot from this match, as it was also their first appearance in the second division since the 1981-82 season. "This is very disappointing. We looked at the game and saw some positive moments," said the defender.

"We have always known that we can compete with teams like Southampton. We want to compete with such teams and possibly rise higher. For this, we need to be dominant at this level," added Cody.

After the match, he also expressed gratitude for the support from the fans who traveled to Southampton. "This is incredible, I have never seen such support away. They were amazing," he noted. Wrexham is now preparing for the match against Hull in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
