Tesla plans to supply electricity to households in Great Britain
- Tesla has submitted an application for a license to supply electricity in Britain.
- The company plans to begin supplying energy next year.
- Registration of new Tesla electric vehicles in Great Britain fell by 60%.
The company Tesla, under the leadership of Elon Musk, has submitted an application for obtaining a license to supply electricity to households in Great Britain. The application was submitted to the regulator Ofgem at the beginning of last month and may be resolved within nine months.
If the license is granted, Tesla will be able to supply electricity in England, Scotland, and Wales next year. This will allow the company to compete with major suppliers, such as Centrica and Octopus Energy.
Tesla already has experience operating in the electricity market, having held a license for electricity generation in Great Britain since 2020. In the USA, the company supplies electricity in Texas, where owners of electric vehicles can charge their cars at lower rates.
According to data, in July 2025, registrations of new Tesla electric vehicles in Great Britain fell by more than 60% compared to the same period last year. This indicates a decrease in demand for Tesla electric vehicles in Europe, which prompts the company to expand its operations in the electricity market.
