President of the USA Donald Trump intends to strengthen the fight against crime in Washington, threatening federal control over the city. These measures foresee an increased presence of federal law enforcement in the city, including up to 450 officers who were deployed on the weekends.
According to the information, Trump plans to hold a press conference, during which he will announce his intentions regarding ensuring safety in Washington. He claims that his administration is ready to take measures to improve the situation with security, including the possible deportation of undocumented individuals from the city.
In response to this statement, Mayor of Washington Muriel Bowser opposed that the city is experiencing a spike in crime, emphasizing that overall crime indicators have decreased this year. Bowser noted that Washington's crime rate compared to cities that experienced violence is lower.
Trump, in turn, accused local authorities of negligence in security and warned that he is considering the possibility of federal control over the Washington police and the involvement of the National Guard to ensure order.
At this moment, it is known that Trump plans to announce his actions regarding security and the cleaning of the city, however, for full control over the city, it is necessary to obtain congressional legislation.
