AOL Stops Providing Telephone Internet Services

  • AOL will cease its telephone internet services on September 30, 2025.
  • This service was popular in the 1990s and at the beginning of the 2000s.
  • AOL has changed owners and is now owned by Apollo Global Management.

AOL, one of the pioneers of the internet, is stopping the provision of telephone internet services starting September 30, 2025. The company announced this on its website, stating that it regularly evaluates its products and services.

It is noted that in the USA approximately 160 thousand people still connect to the internet via telephone lines. Nevertheless, the popularity of broadband and wireless internet has led to a decline in demand for traditional telephone service.

AOL, known for its slogan "You've Got Mail" and popular CDs with free trial versions, became a part of American culture in the 1990s. The company also underwent several ownership changes and was sold to private investment firm Apollo Global Management in 2021.

This move marks the end of an era when AOL was a major player in the internet service industry, but over time it lost its popularity.
