The Entertainer Transfers Ownership to Employees of the Largest Toy Store

  • The Entertainer transfers control over the business to employees.
  • Employees will receive bonuses based on company profits.
  • The company has 160 stores and over 1,000 sales points in other networks.

The Entertainer, the largest toy store chain in Great Britain, transfers control over the business to its 1,900 employees. This decision was announced by the founders, Gary and Catherine Grant, who opened the first store 44 years ago in Basingstoke.

By the end of March, the company will be transferred to a trust for employees, allowing them to receive a share of the profits. According to the new structure, employees will receive bonuses based on company profits.

Gary Grant, who has led the business for many years, stated that this is an important step for the family. All of the Grant children are shareholders, and two of the older sons have been working alongside their parents for over 20 years.

The owners also confirmed that the new structure will allow employees to influence the future development of the company. The Entertainer has 160 stores and over 1,000 sales points in other retail networks, such as Tesco and Marks & Spencer.

The company's revenue for the financial year 2024 reached £7.9 million. The Entertainer is preparing to join other British companies that have already transferred control to their employees, such as Richer Sounds and Riverford.

James de la Vigne, the general director of the Employee Ownership Association, noted that this step is significant for the future of the brand and may help strengthen local jobs in local communities.
