Colombian senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe died on September 11, 2025, more than two months after he was injured during the election campaign in Bogotá. He was 39 years old. The attack occurred on June 7, when Uribe received three gunshot wounds—two to the head and one to the body.
After the attack, the senator underwent several operations and was in critical condition until his death. His friend, journalist María Claudia Tarazona, confirmed the man's death through social media, expressing gratitude for "a life full of love."
The suspect in the attack, a 15-year-old teenager, was detained at the scene of the incident. He was charged with attempted murder, but he did not confess to his crime. Human rights defenders also detained several individuals suspected of being accomplices in the attack.
This incident sparked a discussion regarding political violence in Colombia, recalling times when many political figures were killed in the country. Mother Uribe, journalist Diana Turbay, was kidnapped in 1990 and died during a failed rescue attempt.
