Problems with the equipment led to disqualifications of athletes

  • Six athletes were disqualified due to problems with the equipment.
  • Two Olympic champions and trainers were accused of violations.
  • FIS anticipates a reduction in disqualifications in future competitions.

Athletes on the slopes again faced issues with equipment, which led to the disqualification of several competitors, which occurred during the first competitions of the new season, held on September 10, 2025, in France. In connection with the new rules established by the International Ski Federation (FIS), six athletes were questioned regarding their equipment.

Problems with the equipment arose as a consequence of a scandal that broke out in early 2025, when illegal modified equipment was discovered in the Norwegian team. FIS conducted an investigation, as a result of which two Olympic champions and three team members were accused of ethical violations.

At the competitions in September, besides the six disqualified athletes, there were others who could not start due to problems with the technical approval of their equipment. FIS believes that such disqualifications are a normal consequence of adapting to the new rules.

FIS confirmed that it will continue to monitor compliance with the rules throughout the Olympic season. Competition director Sandro Pertile stated that teams need time to adapt to the new requirements, and they should also anticipate a reduction in the number of disqualifications in the coming weeks.
