EU allocates 1.6 billion euros for supporting Ukraine
- The EU received 1.6 billion euros from frozen Russian assets.
- 95% of this amount will be used to pay off Ukraine's debts.
- The funds are part of the support for Ukraine through mechanisms of cooperation with donors.
This was reported by Interfax Ukraine, Ukrayinska Pravda.
The European Union received a third transfer in the amount of 1.6 billion euros from frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia for supporting Ukraine. This information was published by the press service of the European Commission on September 11, 2025.
According to the announcement, these funds were obtained from the proceeds on cash balances that derive from frozen assets, which are held in central depositories. These assets were frozen under EU sanctions imposed in response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
From the moment of the first transfer in July 2024 and the second in April 2025, 90% of the first two transfers were allocated for supporting Ukraine through the European Peace Facility (EPF), and 10% through mechanisms supporting Ukraine. From the third transfer, 95% of the funds will be directed to support Ukraine through mechanisms of cooperation with donors (ULCM), and 5% through EPF. The ULCM mechanism ensures uninterrupted support for Ukraine for paying off debts provided by the EU and bilateral creditors.
This step is part of the EU's commitment to support Ukraine's stability, as long as it is necessary.
