Emma Thompson recalls Donald Trump's invitation to dinner

Emma Thompson revealed about the phone call she received from Donald Trump around 1997. She recalled this story during the festival in Locarno, Switzerland, where she received the Leopard Club award.

Thompson noted that at that time she was filming "Primary Colors," based on the novel by Joe Klein, which describes the rise of President Bill Clinton. During the shoot, Trump called her on the phone.

"I initially thought it was a joke, and asked: 'What can I do to help?', she recounted. Trump invited her to dinner, saying: "I would like you to stay in one of my beautiful places." Emma immediately declined, saying that she was thinking about his proposition.

The actress revealed that on that day she made the decision to separate from Kenneth Branagh. "I realized that he had people who were looking for a gorgeous divorced woman," she noted. This story Thompson had already shared earlier, including on Graham Norton's program in 2017, where she joked that she could have "changed the history," had she met Trump.
