The Miluki Region Begins Recovery After Record Floods
- Miluki experienced record floods with over 14 days of heavy rain.
- Thousands of homes were left without electricity after the floods.
- Rescuers conducted over 600 operations related to the floods.
Miluki, a state in Viskonsin, began the recovery process after severe floods that brought over 14 days (36 centimeters) of rain in less than 24 hours. The floods caused record high water levels in rivers, submerged vehicles, and left thousands of homes without electricity.
As of early Monday morning, there were no reported fatalities as a result of the storm. The roads became less accessible, but previous reports of flooding remain in Miluki, Vokeshi, and Ozauki. Approximately 3,000 homes were left without electricity at the moment on Monday.
The National Meteorological Service forecasts new rains on Monday evening, but not in the same quantity as during the previous floods. Forecasters reported that four rivers in the region reached record water levels, including the Miluki River, which rose over four feet above flood stage.
On Saturday and Sunday, Miluki received between 8 to 14 days of rain, which prompted numerous rescue operations. Mayor of Miluki, Cavalier Johnson, noted that the area was hit by the strongest floods in the last decade.
Rescuers conducted over 600 operations, including 65 that required rescuing people from the water. One of the incidents involved a child, who was successfully rescued after being swept into the Rut River.
