Packers sign Irish kicker for NFL
- Mark McManus made his NFL debut after transitioning from Gaelic football.
- Packers trainer reported on the injury of safety Zayne Anderson.
- Quarterback Joe Burrow from the Bengals expressed his results in the first game.
Green Bay, Wisconsin — Kicker Mark McManus did not participate in any American football game before his debut in the NFL. He joined the "Green Bay Packers" team just 21 years after his first appearance on the field in the match against the "New York Jets".
Mark, who is 25 years old, previously played in the Canadian football league, but his main experience in the game is from Gaelic football. He played as a goalkeeper and noted that among these types of sports there are significant differences. The kicker emphasized that the biggest difference lies in the shape of the ball: "Gaelic football is round, so that's the biggest difference," said McManus.
After McManus threw three kick-offs in his debut match, he shared his emotions with family through a live video from Lambeau Stadium. "This was an incredible year for my family and friends," he added.
At that time, Packers trainer Matt LaFleur reported that safety Zayne Anderson would miss some time due to an injury sustained in the match against the Jets. This creates competition among other players on the team, such as Davon Bullard and Kitan Oladapo, who may take this position.
At the same time, the NFL preseason received new designations for teams, such as "Cincinnati Bengals", "Indianapolis Colts", and "Jacksonville Jaguars". Quarterback Joe Burrow from the Bengals performed in his first game, completing 9 of 10 passes for 123 yards with two touchdowns. This boosted his confidence before the start of the season.
In the "Colts" there is a battle for the quarterback position between Daniel Jones and Entoni Richardson. Jones played the first round, completing 10 of 21 passes for 144 yards, while Richardson sustained an injury during the game against the Ravens.
