The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, along with the reports, may be ready to discuss territorial concessions by Russia during the upcoming negotiations organized by U.S. President Donald Trump. These negotiations will take place on September 15 in Alaycia during a meeting between Trump and Vladimir Putin.
Trump stated that during the meeting, he intends to discuss the possibility of the return of parts of the occupied territories of Ukraine. He emphasized that Russia currently controls significant territories in five regions of Ukraine that have been under Russian occupation since 2014, including in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson regions, and Crimea.
However, the Minister of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha, rejected the idea of territorial concessions, stating that true peace can only be possible with respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. He stressed that any concessions could lead to further aggression from the side of Russia.
Sybiha also noted that Ukraine must coordinate its actions with Europe and the United States ahead of the meeting between Trump and Putin. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the Constitution of Ukraine in matters of territorial integrity.
Trump, in turn, expressed hope that it may be possible to persuade Putin to end hostilities and discuss the possibility of "exchanging territories" to achieve peace.
