In the USA, in the state of Maryland, immigrant from El Salvador Victor Martinez-Hernandez was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the murder of 37-year-old Rachel Morin. The verdict was announced on September 11, 2025, after Martinez-Hernandez was found guilty of murdering and assaulting women on a popular tourist trail in Bel Air, Maryland, in September 2023.

The court recognized that the defendant planned the attack when he struck Morin with a rock, assaulted her, and concealed her body in a drainage canal. Judge Yolanda Kurtin sentenced him to life imprisonment for first-degree murder, life imprisonment for assault, and an additional 40 years for third-degree sexual offense and rape.

Martinez-Hernandez also has connections with other criminals, including domestic invasions in Los Angeles and is being investigated in El Salvador for the murder of another woman. He was arrested in January 2024 after a 10-month investigation in Oklahoma.
