SAN DIEGO, Chile (AP) — American teenager, influencer Ian Guo, finding himself in a complicated situation, has remained in Antarctica since June 2025. His journey, initially planned as a charitable trip to raise funds for cancer research, ended up facing legal issues regarding his actions.
Guo was detained in Chile without permission, providing false information about his flight, which prompted an investigation by local authorities. He intended to be the largest influencer who independently reaches all continents, but his plans have been thwarted by legal troubles.
The authorities stated that Guo received permission only for travel to Punta Arenas, yet he continued to fly south to Antarctica on his Cessna 182Q aircraft, which is known for its versatility.
On June 29, he was charged with providing false information and illegal entry. However, on August 12, the court dismissed the charges as part of an agreement with the attorneys and prosecutors in Chile. Guo is required to pay $30,000 to the fund to help children with cancer and to remain banned from re-entering the country for three years.
In the last six weeks, he has been staying at a military base, unable to leave the country due to severe winter conditions. According to prosecutor Kristiana Christo, his plane does not have the capabilities for a return flight. Guo hopes to obtain permission to return to the mainland to continue his mission.
Guo is also required to cover all expenses for maintaining his aircraft and personal expenses during his stay at the base.
