From September 12 to 24, 2025, Angola will host the men's AfroBasket, the largest basketball tournament on the continent. This event will feature the best national teams from Africa, showcasing the growth and development of basketball in the region. The tournament will not only determine the continental champion but will also serve as an important stage for qualification for the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
The reigning champions Tunisia are trying to secure the title, while Angola, which has 11 titles, is looking to regain its dominance after a decade-long hiatus. Other teams, such as South Sudan, Senegal, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Côte d'Ivoire, also have strong squads that promise tough competition.
Nigeria, which is eager to win its second title, relies on Josh Okogie from the Houston Rockets. Okogie is transitioning to the squad after a three-year break and has previously been a leader in previous competitions. The team, which consists of experienced players and newcomers, will start its journey in Group B, where it will compete against Tunisia, Cameroon, and Madagascar.
For all teams, the AfroBasket presents an opportunity to showcase their skills on the international stage, as well as to enhance the popularity of basketball in Africa.
