Tottenham has started negotiations for the transfer of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, aiming to bypass Arsenal in the pursuit of this attacking player. Eze has a release clause of £68 million, which expires on Friday, and his representatives are discussing the terms with clubs from Southern London.
Arsenal, meanwhile, previously led in this matter, but has yet to make an official proposal. The club intends to sell a number of forwards, including Leandro Trossard, to free up funds for the transfer of Eze.
Recently appointed Tottenham manager, Thomas Frank, is interested in new players after the injury of James Maddison. Tottenham proposes that Eze has the opportunity to play in the Champions League, since the team won the Europa League last season.
While a deal has not yet been reached, Tottenham does not intend to pay Eze's release clause. However, Arsenal remains at a disadvantage since players consider this club their favorite.
At the same time, Crystal Palace hopes to keep their best forward, including Eze, who scored 14 goals last season, wanting to join the England national team for the World Cup next year.
Palace is also looking to sell Marc Guehi to avoid losses next summer when his contract expires.
