Tropical Storm Erin May Become the First Hurricane of the Season
- Erin may become the first hurricane of the 2025 season.
- The storm is moving toward the west and could impact the US coastline.
- NOAA forecasts an active hurricane season in 2025.
Tropical Storm Erin, which is forming in the Atlantic, has every chance of becoming the first hurricane of the 2025 season. According to meteorologists, the storm is gaining strength in the eastern Atlantic and could be classified as a hurricane as early as September 12.
The storm, which started as a weak depression near the western coast of Africa, has significantly intensified. Among the reasons for its intense development are the absence of shear, such as wind, warm water, and weak winds.
According to forecasts, Erin is expected to move westward over the next week, and then, based on assessments, may slightly turn back to the north. This could potentially lead to direct impacts on the northern part of the Caribbean Sea.
Meteorologists warn that if the storm becomes a hurricane, its impact could be felt significantly along the US coastline, particularly from North Carolina to New England. It is forecasted that the hurricane could bring strong winds, rain, and hazardous conditions along the coastline.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) noted that this year they will track an active hurricane season, with forecasts of 13 named storms, of which 6-10 could become hurricanes with winds of 119 km/h or higher.
