EU leaders call for support for Ukraine during negotiations

  • European parliamentary leaders call for the non-recognition of territorial gains by Russia.
  • The statement emphasizes the importance of a ceasefire for peace negotiations.
  • Support for Ukraine is a key element of EU security.

This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda, Interfax Ukraine.

Leaders of the EU's foreign affairs committees from several European countries and the European Parliament issued a joint statement, in which they emphasize that any agreements reached during negotiations in Algiers after September 15 must not recognize Russia's territorial claims. They call on international leaders to ensure an agreement on a ceasefire.

The statement reads: "Any agreement reached during the negotiations in Algiers must necessarily support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine." It is important that Russia does not gain territorial advantages through its aggression.

The committee emphasizes that only Ukrainians can determine their future, adhering to the principle of "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine." The statement also highlights that European countries should actively participate in negotiations to reduce risks for European security caused by Russia's aggression.

EU leaders indicate that diplomatic solutions must protect the vital interests of Ukraine's security and that the EU will continue to support Ukraine in its right to self-defense.

The European Union plans to continue providing support to Ukraine in the political, financial, and military spheres.
