Doctors Warn About the Risks of Using ChatGPT for Health

  • A person developed pneumonia after using ChatGPT.
  • Doctors urge caution with AI in medicine.
  • OpenAI updated ChatGPT to improve medical advice.

The medical journal Annals of Internal Medicine reported on the use of ChatGPT for obtaining medical information after a person developed a rare pneumonia related to a bromide, following a consultation with the chatbot about reducing the use of salt. The article describes the case of a 60-year-old man who, after interacting with ChatGPT, began experiencing symptoms of bromism, which led to bromism.

The man turned to doctors, stating that his spouse may have contracted it. He also had several dietary restrictions and excessive intake of syrup. After inpatient treatment and stabilization of his condition, he was found to have symptoms of bromism, such as acne, drowsiness, and paranoia.

The authors of the article emphasized that using artificial intelligence can lead to serious negative health consequences. They noted that they were unable to obtain access to the patient's chats with ChatGPT, so they could not determine what specific advice he received.

OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, recently announced an update to the model, which aims to improve its ability to provide medical advice. However, the authors of the article warn that AI can generate scientifically inaccurate information and contribute to the spread of misinformation in the medical field.

The publication stresses that while AI can be useful in medicine, it is crucial for patients to always consult a doctor before following any advice received from chatbots.
