On August 12, 2025, in connection with the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, experts express various opinions about the potential consequences of this encounter. The meeting is scheduled for August 15 in Alaytsi and will be the first personal meeting between Trump and Putin since 2015.
The U.S. Secretary of State, Pete Hegseth, noted that Trump has created conditions for a possible peaceful resolution, but there are still steps that may not satisfy either side. He emphasized that Putin is not expected to attend the meeting if he does not feel pressure.
At the same time, political expert Amanda Paul believes that the meeting may not yield significant results, especially since Trump has a tendency to be lenient towards Putin's aggression. She pointed to risks related to the fact that Trump will be accompanied by someone who has experience working in the KGB.
Paul also expressed concerns about potential outcomes for Ukraine, noting that compromising in the form of relinquishing parts of the territory could only encourage Russia's aggression. She urged Trump to apply pressure on Russia through sanctions to achieve a sustainable ceasefire.
During the press conference, Trump has already expressed his intention to "conclude a deal" with Putin, but this raises concerns that he may not understand the nuances related to Russia's aggression.
Meanwhile, the first deputy minister for occupied territories of Ukraine, Serhiy Kyslytsia, emphasized that Ukraine remains an active participant in negotiations and that the situation is not catastrophic for Kyiv.
