President of the USA Donald Trump changed his position regarding Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who was less than a week ago under pressure to resign. Trump stated that Tan's career is "extraordinary."
Intel's stock prices, which fell following Trump's criticism, rose by more than 3% before the market opened in the morning. The demand for Tan's resignation arose after Senator Tom Cotton sent a letter to Intel's CEO Frank Yao, in which he expressed concern regarding Tan's investments and his connections with Chinese companies, which likely have ties to the Communist Party of China.
Trump, expressing himself on the Truth Social platform, noted that Intel's CEO "strongly conflicts and should resign immediately." Lip-Bu Tan, who has been with Intel for years, assured his employees that he always adheres to the highest legal and ethical standards.
After meeting with Tan at the White House, Trump backed away from the demand for resignation. In his post, he wrote that the meeting was interesting, and Tan's success is an extraordinary story. Trump also mentioned that Tan and his cabinet will continue to work together on future proposals.
Economic and political competition between the USA and China continues to be increasingly focused on computer chips, artificial intelligence, and other digital technologies.
