Iran Detained 21,000 People During the War with Israel

  • Iran detained 21,000 people during the conflict with Israel.
  • More than 260 individuals are suspected of espionage.
  • Israel carried out strikes, resulting in nearly 1,100 deaths.

TEHRAN, Iran — According to reports from state media, Iranian police detained 21,000 people during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June.

General Said Montazeralmohdi, a police representative, reported that citizens had informed about suspected government agents. He stated: "The detention of 21,000 individuals during the 12-day war indicates the high level of vigilance and public participation in ensuring security."

Montazeralmohdi did not specify the reasons for the detention of these individuals, but reported that over 260 are suspected of espionage, and another 172 for illegal mining.

He added that during the conflict, more than 1,000 checkpoints were established across the country from June 13 to 24.

This is the first instance where the Iranian police provided a total number of arrests during wartime. Notably, in June, Iran suffered the loss of seven individuals, allegedly for espionage on behalf of Israel, which triggered an increase in activity regarding potential mass strikes.

Israel conducted waves of airstrikes on Iran, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,100 people, including military commanders. In response to this, Iranian strikes killed 28 individuals in Israel.

Since the end of the war between Iran and Israel, there has been a general announcement about a regime of limited fire, which has been confirmed following airstrikes on major nuclear facilities in Iran.

After 12 days of aerial attacks by Israel and the USA, which resulted in the deaths of more than 1,100 people, including military commanders, Iran announced a new draft of recruits. The National Security Council of the country approved a decision on the creation of a new draft of national recruits, which was announced by President Masoud Pezeshkian. This council will focus on recruitment plans and improving the capabilities of Iran's armed forces.

Members of the council will include the speaker of parliament, the head of the judicial system, and the heads of military departments and relevant ministries. Previously, Iran had a similar council during the war with Iraq in the 1980s, which resulted in more than a million casualties from both sides.
