Daryl Hall and John Oates have concluded their business relationship through arbitration, having reached a private decision after details of their conflict became known in court documents filed in 2023. Hall's attorneys reported the final decision in the arbitration in a statement published on September 12, 2025.
In the status statement, Hall's attorneys noted that the case received a final decision in arbitration, and they submitted a proposal to refer the case to Judge Russell Perkins. The remaining case had public filings in June 2023, and the court indicated to Hall's attorneys that they would receive an update in mid-July.
The details of the arbitration process remain unknown. Hall previously accused Oates of betrayal and breach of trust, to which Oates responded that he was deeply hurt, stating that Hall was making provocative and inaccurate statements about him.
The conflict became public in the fall of 2023 when Hall filed a lawsuit to stop the sale of Oates' shares in Whole Oats Enterprises LLP. This company owns the valuable assets of Hall & Oates, including trademarks and royalties from their music.
Oates previously stated that he had no intention of collaborating with Hall and did not see the possibility of restoring their partnership. Hall also expressed pessimism about the possibility of restoring their relationship, stating that "this ship has sailed."
