Commercial Operations of Waabi Launched with New Leader
- Liore Ron has been appointed COO of Waabi for the development of commercial operations.
- Waabi plans to launch autonomous freight trucks this year.
- The company has a partnership with Volvo for the implementation of its technology.
Waabi, a startup in the field of autonomous driving technology, announced the appointment of Liore Ron, former general director of Uber Freight, to the position of chief operating officer. This announcement came in the context of the company's preparation for the launch of commercial freight operations using autonomous trucks this year.
Liore Ron, who led Uber Freight since 2016, will now be responsible for developing the strategy for market entry and expanding partnership relations. He and Waabi's founder Raquel Urtasun previously worked together at Uber, where Ron was also a co-founder of the startup Otto, which Uber acquired in 2016.
Waabi plans to launch commercial pilots in Texas, where it is already actively collaborating with Volvo to develop specially built autonomous freight trucks. The company has already raised $283 million from investors, including Uber and Nvidia, and has a partnership with Volvo for the implementation of its technology.
Currently, Waabi is preparing to transition from research and development to commercialization, hoping that the demand for autonomous trucks will be significant. Ron noted that he regularly engages with leaders of transportation companies, which are eagerly awaiting the implementation of autonomous technology in logistics.
