On August 12, 2025, a fire was observed in the area of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZAES) cargo port. The port is located beyond the boundaries of the protected perimeter of the facility, which is currently under temporary occupation.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported on this incident, clarifying that the place of the fire and its possible consequences are currently being established. They emphasized that the incident again draws attention to the threats associated with the Russian occupation of the largest nuclear facility in Europe.

The Ministry also noted that any provocations or military actions in the territory of ZAES could lead to unforeseen and catastrophic consequences for the entire continent. According to the information, on August 10, during the Russian shelling of Zaporizhzhia, the building of the Zovnishny Crisis Center of ZAES was damaged.
