Court in South Korea Arrests Friend of Former President Yoon

Seoul, South Korea (AP) — The Southern District Court of South Korea issued an arrest warrant for the friend of former President Yoon Suk-yeol. Prosecutors plan to charge her with a series of crimes, including corruption, manipulation of stock prices, and involvement in the selection of candidates.

The arrest warrant for Kim Keon-hee was issued late Tuesday evening, prosecutors reported. This investigation is part of three special prosecutor investigations initiated by the new liberal government of Seoul, which relate to President Yoon, a conservative, who was removed from office last month following his attempt to introduce military status in the constitution.

Kim did not speak to reporters when she arrived at the court and will remain in the next isolation in southern Seoul, apart from Yoon. The special prosecutor group, led by special prosecutor Min Joon-ki, questioned Kim about seven hours last week before deciding to return to court for her arrest. Kim expressed a general refusal to cooperate with the investigation, but also indicated an intention to prevent the charges against her.
