Sebastian Telfair asks Trump for clemency before his sentence
- Telfair appealed to Trump asking for clemency.
- He received six months in prison for fraud with medical insurance.
- He plans to write a book about his experience and self-redemption.
Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair reached out to President Donald Trump asking for clemency as he prepares to serve a six-month sentence in federal prison for participating in a scheme to defraud medical insurance. Telfair, one of 18 basketball players accused in the fraud, was charged in July 2021 with illegally obtaining approximately $2.5 million from the U.S. through fake medical claims.
Telfair, 40, recalled his history in an interview with TMZ, noting that his conviction was related to claims in documents. "I don't deserve to be in prison, I've always done good for society," he stated, emphasizing that he wants to remain at home with his family.
The former basketball star, who began his career in the NBA in 2004, received a three-year conditional term, but later was sentenced to six months in prison for violating the conditions of his release. Telfair did not comply with the terms, such as mandatory community service hours.
He plans to write a book about his experience, using his history as an example for others. Telfair hopes that Trump will pay attention to his case and give him the opportunity to change his life for the better.
