Microsoft Launches New Add-ins to Enhance Productivity

  • New lightweight add-ins for the task pane are being launched automatically.
  • Available add-ins include People, File Search, and Calendar.
  • Implementation starts this month for all business users.

This is reported by The Verge, ZDNet.

Microsoft begins rolling out new lightweight add-ins for the task pane for Microsoft 365 users on Windows 11. These add-ins launch automatically upon starting the computer, providing quick access to contacts, file search, and calendar.

Among the new add-ins is People, which allows users to view the organizational structure and find contact details of colleagues. Users can quickly start a message or call through Teams or send an email.

The File Search add-in ensures quick access to Microsoft 365 files, allowing searches by file name, author, or other keywords. Users can preview files before opening them and utilize various filters for searching.

The Calendar add-in provides an overview of the Microsoft 365 calendar, where users can view upcoming events, search for meetings, or schedule a meeting.

These three add-ins have been in beta testing for the past few months, and their general rollout begins this month for all Microsoft 365 business users. The add-ins are automatically installed if Microsoft 365 programs are already present on the computer. IT administrators can disable the automatic installation of these add-ins, while users can stop their automatic launch at system startup.
