The artificial intelligence company Perplexity has made an unsolicited proposal to acquire the browser Google Chrome for $34.5 billion. This offer comes as a surprise, considering the company itself is valued at approximately $18 billion.

The proposal was confirmed by a representative of Perplexity and was first reported in The Wall Street Journal. It comes amid legal challenges for Google, which is awaiting a court ruling regarding alleged violations of U.S. antitrust laws.

In 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice proposed that Google sell its browser due to identified violations. Google argues that such a sale is unnecessary and plans to contest the court's ruling.

Perplexity, which was founded three years ago, has developed its own search tool that leverages a model of artificial intelligence for processing web content. In July, the company also launched the Comet browser, which aims to provide a more personalized experience for users.

Perplexity had previously made an acquisition offer for TikTok, and its activity suggests that new companies are trying to compete with major players in the tech industry. According to recent data, Perplexity has secured funding from large investment funds to facilitate the acquisition.
