Suspect identified in shooting in Texas that claimed three lives

In Texas, during the shooting that occurred on September 12, 2025, three people were killed, including a child. The incident took place in the parking lot of a Target store in Austin, during the back-to-school shopping season.

Police discovered three victims shot at the scene of the incident. Two people died on the scene, while the third victim was transported to a hospital, where they were also pronounced dead. The suspect in the shooting is 32-year-old Ethan Nieneker, who was arrested after attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle.

After the incident, Nieneker attempted to steal another vehicle, but was apprehended by police, who utilized a taser. Police reported that the suspect has "a history of psychological issues" and a criminal background that includes a number of offenses related to violence in the family.

Nieneker has been charged with murder along with related offenses and other serious crimes. The motives behind his actions remain unclear.

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson expressed condolences to the victims' families, calling the incident "a horrific act of violence."
